23rd Reunion
September 24 - 28th, 2008
Pooler, Georgia
Information copied from Soupy's May 2007 email
After looking around Pooler, Ga. we think we worked out what will work for us. We have Two (02) hotels that we will be staying at for the reunion. They are a few feet from each other (Back to Back) and the one is the Best Western Bradbury Suites and the other one is the Jameson Inn. The dates are the same Wed., Sep 24 (check-in) and Sun., Sep 28 (check-out) and the prices for both hotels also stayed the same $84.00. We have 75 rooms blocked at the Best Western and 25 blocked at the Jameson Inn. Our hospitality room will be in the Best Western Hotel. We will be having our Reunion Banquet at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum (which is right behind the Best Western). Price is still being worked on for the Banquet. There will be more in the October 2007 Newsletter as to reservations and everything else.
There will be 2 tours during the reunion and they are the tour to Paula Deans' Restaurant on Thursday and the tour to Parris Island Marine Graduation on Friday. The rest of the time you can make your own plans as there is a lot of things to do in Savannah. Friday, don't forget that we also have the reunion banquet beginning at 5:30 PM at the Mighty Eighth Museum which is near the hotels.

Linda Hawkins email detail Paula Dean Tour
Dated Mon, 7 Jan 2008
Paula Deen is a self-made success story who learned the secrets of southern cooking from her Grandmother some 30 years ago. She had no idea of the time that the love of southern cooking her grandmother instilled in her would lead to a life-long career.
Newly divorced and with only $200 her name, Paula packed up her two sons and moved from Albany, Ga., to Savannah. There she started her own catering business called The Bag Lady, where she prepared fresh lunches to sell to downtown businesses and doctors' offices.
Most days Paula rose in the early morning to grill chicken for popular chicken salad. Every Thursday night she cooked until the wee hours to create a mouthwatering Friday special, Boston Butt. Her local specialties, such as chicken pot pies, barbecue sandwiches, lasagna and banana pudding, caught on with the Savannah business crowd and quickly became the talk of the town.
In 1990, Paula opened her own restaurant in the south side Savannah Best Western, called The Lady and Sons. In 1995 Paula relocated to downtown Savannah where Lady and Sons has been ever since.
The Lady and Sons has gathered accolades from critics and media alike. The most important honor for Paula was when the food writer for USA Today recognized The Lady and Sons as having the Most Memorable Meal of the Year.Paula's business continues to flourish with a series of successful cookbooks. Paula Deen and Friends:Living it up, Southern Style, The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook. Ther Lady and Sons Two, and The Lady and Sons Just Desserts. She also has a magazine "Cooking with Paula Deen" and two Food Network TV shows--Paula's Home Cooking, and Paula's Party. She is seen on most TV shows such as Ophra, Regis, Today, GoodMorning America, etc. as well as HSN and QVC. All in all she is a Souther Bell "rags to riches" gal with southern charm and wit.

Good Morning Everyone. I am putting out this note mainly for the "Early Birds" who are sending in their 2008 reunion questionnaires along with a check. The reunion dinner in the October 2007 Newsletter has the reunion dinner at $30. Unfortunately since then I have had to raise the cost of the dinner to $35 for the following reasons: We are not getting a free banquet room, we had to pay a $1600 rental fee for the rotunda of the Mighty Eighth Museum Hall and our caterer's actual price for the dinner is $22 (plus 7% sales tax and 18% gratuity). So with both things put together the $35 price tag for our reunion dinner. This is referring to the reunion in Pooler, GA. Any questions about the increase feel free to contact me. The following is the menu for the dinner Phil: Southern Fried Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork, Red Beans and Rice, Collard Greens, Squash Casserole, Macaroni & Cheese, Garden Salad, Fresh Bread, Coffee, Iced Tea and Assorted Cookies.
