0000-0400 Steaming in company with USS GALVESTON (CLG-3) and USS PRICHETT (DD-561) in support of amphibious operations off the coast of the Republic of Vietnam in the vicinity of Chu Lai in accordance with COMSEVENTHFLT First Quarterly Employment Schedule. SOPA is CTG 70.8 embarked in GALVESTON. OTC is Commanding Officer of USS GALVESTON (CLG-3). Condition of Readiness IV and Material Condition YOKE set. The ship is darkened. The ship is maneuvering at various courses and speeds to maintain a patrol station North of Pointe de Phuoc Thien and South of Cap Bantan.

Conducting a junk and sampan patrol in support of US Marines Amphibious Operations ashore between Nui Gay Tac and Pointe de Phuoc Thien, on base courses of 140°(T) and 320°(T), base speed 3 kts. SOPA is CTG 70.8 in the USS GALVESTON (CLG-3). OTC is Commanding Officer, GALVESTON. Ships present include USS PRICHETT (DD-561), GALVESTON, and various units of the US Pacific Amphibious Forces. 0000-0400 Steaming as an element of Task Unit 70.8.9 in Baie de Myhan, Republic of Vietnam, while conducting Naval Gunfire Support in accordance with COMSEVENTHFLT First Quarterly Employment Schedule. Chief of Staff, COMCRUDESFLOT NINE is presently on board with staff assistants for conference with the Commanding Officer of this ship. The ship is maneuvering to remain 500 yds. from USS GALVESTON (CLG-3). SOPA is CTG 70.8 in GALVESTON. OTC is Commanding Officer of GALVESTON. Other ships present include USS PRICHETT (DD-561) and various units of the US Seventh Fleet Amphibious Force. Readiness Condition IV is in effect with Material Condition YOKE set throughout the ship. The ship is darkened.
