Billy Scott, CWO, USN Ret

On December 31, 1999, Bill died quietly and gently at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas at the age of 68. Bill was born May 10, 1931 to a financially struggling farmer/ Baptist minister and wife in Alma, Arkansas. Bill was determined to make a good life for himself so he enlisted in the Navy. As an enlisted man, he worked and studied his way up to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, earning the respect of his crew and peers, especially on the USS Galveston when his division presented him with a Navy Sword. He retired from the Navy in October, 1973, after 22 years of service. He went to work for SDG&E as an apprentice in December, 1973. Bill worked his way up to maintenance training specialist, retiring from SDG&E in 1992. He was an avid fisherman, especially after his retirement. Bill is survived by his wife Dolly; 2 sons, Mark D. of Encinitas and Blake M. of La Mesa; 4 daughters, Linda Corcoran of Hawaii, Terri Ross of Petaluma, Calif; Kym D. and Blase R. of Encinitas; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, J.C. Scott and family of Rudy, Arkansas. The family invites all who knew and loved Bill to join them in a celebration of life at the graveside services at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Monday, January 10 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Center Pulmonary Division on Health Center Drive, San Diego 92123.
