GALVESTON GALS

By Laws and Constitution

ARTICLE 1 - NAME:

The name of this association shall be "GALVESTON Gals".

ARTICLE 2 - PURPOSE:

The purpose of this association is to foster good will and fellowship among the wives, widows and female friends of members of the GALVESTON Shipmates Association.

ARTICLE 3 - MEMBERSHIP:

Membership shall be open to any person who is a wife, widow or female friend of any member of the GALVESTON Shipmates Association.

ARTICLE 4 - OFFICERS:

Section 1. Elective Officers shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer and Chaplain.

Section 2 (a). The President and Vice-President shall serve a term of two (02) years or until their successors are duly elected.

Section 2 (b). The Secretary/Treasurer and Chaplain shall serve a term of three (03) years or until their successors are duly elected.

Section 2 (c). To be eligible for the Office, the candidate must be an active member in good standing.

Section 2 (d). Any Officer elected by the membership can succeed herself.

ARTICLE 5 - DUTIES OF OFFICERS:

Section 1. PRESIDENT:

(a) Shall be Senior Officer of the Association.

(b) Shall conduct all meetings.

(c) Shall preserve order, enforce the By Laws of this Association, Administer its affairs and she shall have the deciding vote in case of a tie.

Section 2. VICE-PRESIDENT:

(a) Perform the duties of the President in her absence or incapacity.

(b) Assist the President in preserving order.

(c) Supervise activities at the Reunion Business Meeting.

(d) Perform other duties she may be assigned by the President.

Section 3. SECRETARY/TREASURER:

(a) Keep accurate records of the proceedings at all meetings.

(b) Keep record of each active member with complete name, address and current dues status, sign membership cards and collect all dues.

(c) The collection of dues is under her jurisdiction.

(d) She shall keep complete financial records, and report on the finances at the regular business meeting.

ARTICLE 6 - COMPENSATION:

The Officers shall receive no compensation for their services.

ARTICLE 7 - MEETINGS:

Section 1. All meetings of an official nature shall be conducted in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order, and it shall be the responsibility of the Secretary/Treasurer to advise the President on the rules of order and any violation of these articles.

Section 2. One must be a member in good standing to participate in membership meetings.

ARTICLE 8 - DUES:

Section 1. Dues for this association are $10.00 per year. The dues are due on October 1st of each year. The purpose of these dues are to cover mailings and other expenses of the Association, and to be a member in good standing your dues must be paid up to date.

Section 2. The Secretary/Treasurer shall make an accounting of these dues and expenses to the President at the Reunion or at her request. Dues money shall be kept in an account with President and Secretary/Treasurer approval.

ARTICLE 9 - REUNIONS:

Reunions shall be held at a time and place voted on by the membership of the Shipmate Association, at the official meeting to be held during the reunion.

ARTICLE 10 - CHANGES:

Changes and additions to the Galveston Gals By-Laws shall be made by a majority vote by those present at the Annual Business Meeting.

ARTICLE 11 - TERMINATION:

Should this Association be terminated for any reason, all monetary assets shall be donated to the USS Galveston CLG-3 Shipmates Association at the time of termination.
